The Covenant Keepers

by Bob Rose

The covenant keepers were started by a few men who felt a need to become stronger spiritual leaders within our church. We wanted to both teach and foster the foundational truths of the Bible and reinforce our basic convictions within our church. In order to achieve this, along with other objectives, we realized that we needed to devote ourselves to a closer spiritual walk with God, and we realized that this would not be possible without a sincere and devoted effort on our part.

We meet once a week to pray and to share our week's walk with God - both the good and the bad. Heartfelt sharing and intensive prayer are the foundations of our group. We simply want to become active prayer warriors for our Lord and to set an example in our lives that may someday motivate another person to seek a deeper relationship with God. We constantly seek forgiveness of our many sins and shortcomings and pray for God's help in making our lives more abundant and receptive to the Word of God.

Young people throughout the world know that if it is something really important then men will be actively involved. That is the reason the men of our church can't afford to sit back and play a passive role when it comes to Jesus Christ. We need to take every opportunity to influence both young and old to a maturing relationship with Christ. We feel the old saying, "If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you" should always have as the answer a resounding "YES".

We both love and cherish the women of our church and often wonder where we would be if it wasn't for the loving efforts and devotion to Christ our women demonstrate on a daily basis. We want to support our church family with our prayer, our time, our gifts, and our love.

We worked diligently to devise a mission statement that would adequately describe what we felt we needed to be doing and what was realistically attainable. We came up with ten items; then shortly thereafter added one more. Almost every week I go back to that statement to see where we are and if we are moving in the right direction. We find ourselves doing a lot more listening to God for His guidance than ever before since we want our group to be both led and inspired by our Lord. We sometimes find it hard to listen and so much easier to talk. Talking to God is important, but it is also important that we humble ourselves before Him and listen for His counsel and guidance. It is certain that you cannot fool God - He knows.

Where are we going and how are we going to get there? I don't think any of us know for certain except we are devoted to intensive prayer and patient wanting and listening for the guidance we so desperately need from God. We have faith that if we stay in continual prayer and study of the Word, God will lead us where He wants us to go.

If you are a man who feels that God is calling you into a deepening commitment, perhaps the Covenant Keepers is the place you need to be. We meet each Tuesday night at 7:00 PM at the Harris Chapel Church. Anyone with spiritual or prayer needs, with God's help, we would like to work with you to make a difference.
